2 Weeks Till Alabama!!

What's New:

The West Point SLI team is ready to begin their second year.  We learned a great deal from our first year’s experience, and are ready to continue this program for another year.  Our community strongly supports us in this project and is excited to be a part of it.  We presented last year’s project to the community club in late summer and received strong encouragement to please continue boldly on.  Our project has opened the eyes of many of our classmates and community to the prospects and challenges of engineering.  The enthusiasm of our team has increased the enrollment in some of the hard math and science courses.  We will return 2 of our small team of 5 students, and add 3 or more new and younger students to keep the enthusiasm going.  We are also excited about moving on to a more challenging project, building on the solid foundation of our past work.

What is SLI?

SLI is a competitive rocket and payload-building challenge designed for high school students. It requires an eight months of commitment to successfully design, construct, test, launch, and recover a reusable rocket and science payload. The initiative is more than designing and building a rocket from a commercial kit. It involves diverse aspects such as: scheduling, purchasing, performing calculations, financing the project, coordinating logistics, arranging press coverage, and documenting impact made on education through reports and design reviews. Schools are encouraged to involve a diverse group of departments such as mathematics, science, technology, English, journalism, and art.
