4013 - Staff Dress and Appearance

Staff Dress and Appearance

The attire worn by staff members conveys an important image to students and the general public. The appearance of professional staff members shall be appropriate to their assigned duties and indicative of their professional standing in the school and community.

Certified staff, para-educators, and office staff should generally dress in business casual attire.  The building principal may temporarily alter the dress code (more or less formal) when other factors support this need for school employees.

Custodial, maintenance and transportation staff should dress in attire appropriate to the work they are performing.  During public events, the provided custodial “uniform” shirt is expected.  (games, open house, etc.)

  • With regard to dress and appearance, a more conservative view is best.  Items that are immodest or may distract other employees or students in the learning environment are strictly prohibited.

  • Visible body piercings, including tongue adornment, while at school or during a school function on or off school premises is prohibited.  This prohibition applies to all parts of the body other than the ear.

  • Sweat, jogging, and wind suits, along with shorts, should not be worn, except when teaching a physical education activity or at athletic or other activity practices.
