Professional Growth

          The board of education believes the goal of professional self-improvement to be inherent in the responsibilities of each certificated district employee. 

 

Every six years, permanent certificated employees shall give evidence of professional growth.  (see guidelines)

Guidelines

·         Teachers without a Master’s degree will be required to earn 60 professional growth points in six years.

·         Teachers with a Master’s degree will be required to earn 40 professional growth points in six years.

·         The 6 year period will run from August 1st of year one to July 31st of year six.  At the end of the six year period, the deadline for submitting points shall be August 15th of year six.

·         Teachers will be able to submit professional growth points three times each year:  August 15, December 15 and May 15.

·         Professional growth points shall be submitted to the building principal who will recommend/not recommend the professional growth points.  The signed form will be sent by the building principal to the superintendent’s office.  The superintendent has the final approval for all professional growth points.

·         The final responsibility for maintaining a record of professional growth points for each teacher shall be the responsibility of the superintendent’s office.  Teachers are strongly encouraged to also maintain a record of their professional growth points.

·         The superintendent’s office will provide a summary of professional growth points to each teacher.

·         At the start of this policy, teachers will be informed of the beginning and ending dates for their six year period.

·         Beemer teachers will start their six year period as of August 1, 2006. (first year of full merger)

·         Professional growth points earned during the current six year period under the old policy shall be evaluated using the old policy.  These points will then be accepted as part of the total number of points for teachers under the new policy.

·         This policy will be retroactive to August 1, 2006.
