Policy 4040

Classified Staff

This policy applies to all classified staff working 30 hours per week or greater.

Wages

  • The minimum starting hourly wage for West Point Public Schools will be $10.00 per hour.
  • Upon immediate supervisor’s recommendation and approval of the superintendent, an annual hourly raise may be awarded.
    • January 2010 a .40¢ increase was allocated to all classified employees – Board Action
    • January 2013 a .25¢ increase was allocated to all classified employees – Board Action
    • March 2015 a .50¢  increase was allocated to all classified employees for 2015-16 school year - Board Action
  • Personnel may be “froze” at a particular amount for more than one year.
  • Personnel may receive “merit pay bonuses” at the superintendent’s discretion. 

 

Health Insurance – Partial Year Employees

  • Single Health Insurance (PPO) paid for months worked
  • Single Dental Insurance paid for months worked

or

  • 75% of Family Health Insurance (PPO) paid for months worked
  • Portion of health insurance expense (25%) is an allowable Cafeteria Plan contribution
  • Single Dental Insurance paid for months worked

 

Due to the fact that benefits are based on 30 working hours per week, staff members who fall below an averaged 30 hour work week, will be responsible for the cost of that month’s insurance premium.

 

Health Insurance – 12 month Employees

  • 100% of the appropriate Health Insurance (PPO) tier paid

Life Insurance

  • Life Insurance of $15,000
  • Option to take an additional $15,000 at the employee’s expense

 

LTD

§  Premium expense for long-term disability insurance provided via reimbursement.

 

Time

§  5 days sick leave each year (accumulative to 30 days)

Employees in year 1 - Sick days earned at .5 days per month.  Leave prorated as needed.§  2 personal days per year (non accumulative)

Employees in year 1 - Personal days earned at .5 days per month.  Leave prorated as needed.

§  Employees who are absent from work, without the acquired leave, will be required to take such leave without pay.  In addition, use of leave without pay may be grounds for termination of employment.

 

Leave

§  12 month positions receive Vacation and Holiday Pay

à         Vacation days are earned one day per month of employment, up to 10 days per year (accumulative to 45 days).  BOE action in July of 2004: “After ten years of continuous service to the school district, the school district will add one vacation day per year for years 11 through 15.”

à         Holiday Pay is defined as regular shift pay for the following holidays:

Labor Day,                  Thanksgiving,              Christmas,

New Year’s Day,         Memorial Day,                   July 4th.

 

  • All employees will receive Holiday Pay during months worked; of the regular school calendar, during the second school year of service.  (i.e. In the second school year, a  paraprofessional or cook, will be paid for the following holidays – Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.)  If the school calendar extends beyond Memorial Day, that holiday would be included as well.  Memorial Day will be included for secretaries based on their work calendar.  
  • Holiday Pay is defined as regular shift pay, for a regular shift.
  • 11 month positions receive vacation days which are earned one day per month of employment, up to 10 days per year (accumulative to 45 days). 

 

Retirement

§  Retirement, with the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems is mandatory for employees working 20 or more hours per week.

§  Employee contributions into the retirement system based upon state requirements.

 

Other

§  When required to attend training by the District, time will be compensated.

§  When school is closed due to inclement weather, after the March meeting of the Board of Education, days may be made up by classified staff to assist in compensating for time lost.  These make up days will be to assist in the closure of school or required training time.  In either case, make up days will be as assigned and most likely outside the normal job description.
