Seniors represent WP-B at Bright Lights

By Darian Repschlaeger

On October 3, the 2018-2019 Bright Lights participants gathered at the Nielsen Center in West Point. This conference was the first of seven that the participants will attend throughout the year. They will meet once every month.

Bright Lights is “a program where four students from the schools in the district meet up in teams to create a marketing plan for a service or product,” stated West Point-Beemer’s advisor, Stephanie Holdsworth. In addition to WPBHS, three other schools take part in this program: Guardian Angels-Central Catholic, Wisner-Pilger, and Bancroft-Rosalie.

WP-B was represented last year by Mitchell Lierman, Brooke Haase, Bryce Ulrich, and Kalli Meyer.

This year’s Bright Lights participants include seniors Kendra Paasch, Sierra Kile, Blake Anderson, and Ben VanderGriend. Paasch hopes “to learn more about the Healthcare field and to find new ways to innovate” by taking part in Bright Lights.

Former Bright Lights participant Lierman has some tips for the new WP-B representatives. He stresses the importance of teamwork and communication, suggesting that the participants make sure every group member has his own task, and everyone knows each other’s tasks.

Lierman also recommends that one person be appointed the duty of making the presentation while the rest of the group helps accumulate information. This point is crucial as he claims, “it’s a group effort, and it [the presentation] should look cohesive as a unit.”
