WP-B builds new multi-purpose room

By Darian Repschlaeger and Kendra Paasch

West Point-Beemer added on to the school this past summer/fall. The contracting service that built the multi-purpose room was Rogge Construction.

The total cost was $632,000. West Point-Beemer signed a seven year lease purchase agreement with Beemer First Community Bank to help pay for the building.

The multi-purpose room will be used year round by one act, wrestling, teacher inservice, all school play, baseball, softball, golf, physical education, and testing.

Currently, the room is being used. It was used as the reception room for the Veteran’s Day Program, and the wrestling program uses it for practices.

The school will have to go through the punch list, a list of things that need to be fixed.

A couple of weeks ago, a few of the problems included the mortar was too tan, the windows weren’t sealed correctly, and some drywall needed fixed.

Now, the main problem on the punch list is the outside of the building.

One of the main reasons that the punch list is so long is the events that happened over the summer. Everyone thinks that the water was the problem, but it was just a symptom of the underlying problem.

The main problem was that the footings took 6-7 weeks to complete when they should have taken 6 days.

Superintendent Bill McAllister stated, “I’m excited for it to be done. I think we will have a lot of use out of it.”
