Softball Recap

Jasmine Stinson

October 22, 2019

The Cadet softball team ended its 2019-2020 season, sporting a 12-16 record.

The ladies had a great start to the season after earning runner-up at the North Bend Central invite.

The players include: Abbey Dale, Jamie Pierce, Kaityln Combs, Kayla Conant, Paige Lierman, Jasmine Stinson, Hannah Landholm, Lauren Wragge, Emily Toelle, Alli Lase, Jordyn Landholm, Saige Miserez, Katelyn Wermers, and Molly Winn.

The 2019 season called for new challenges. Starting pitcher, Abbey Dale, tore her ACL. She battled through and continued the season while postponing her surgery.

“Abbey being our main pitcher and competing with an injured knee isn't easy.  Most people don't even attempt to do what she did for us every game at one of the most challenging sports to play,” stated head coach Scott Anderson.

Along with Dale’s knee injury, starting center fielder, Jamie Pierce, was out temporarily with a shoulder injury.

“Jamie's injury hurt us both on offense and defense. Her speed on the base path isn't something we can duplicate when she's out of the lineup.  We missed her run scoring abilities in some of our close games during the middle of the season,” said Anderson.

The girls battled through the season and ended up being conference runner-up. Going in as the 7th seed, the team defeated teams they previously lost to including Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and Highway 91. The team fell to NEN in the conference finals.

In addition, the girls lost some close games in the middle of the season, but then battled back. “I thought we were good this year at putting bad losses behind us and moving on to the next game,” stated Andersen.

The toughest games the girls faced this season were Wayne and Norris. Both teams are rated in the all class top 10.

Even though the team faced many challenges this season, they earned runner-up at the North Bend tournament, the O’Neill tournament, and conference. The Cadet softball team had its ups and downs but battled through everything they faced.
