Corona-virus: The Good and The Bad

Trey Bruce

The main thing on everyone’s mind is the corona-virus. Corona this, corona that, it is everywhere. The corona-virus has caused a lot of problems around the world. Basically, everything has been affected: Disney World, the NBA, even State FBLA! The corona-virus has even “affected” me.

Even though the corona-virus is a very bad thing, I have discovered some positives about it. The first thing is I don’t have to get up early for school. Instead of waking up at 6 o’clock in the morning with little to no sleep, I can wake up at 11 o’clock. I can do homework at my own time and pace. I feel that doing an English test at 9 o’clock at night with Netflix on in the background is a far better environment for me than taking it at 9 o’clock in the morning in a dead silent room. Also, I get to spend time finishing series and movies I haven’t had time for.

Since the beginning of the corona-virus, many things have come to an end. To state the obvious, the likely chance of us returning to school is slim to none. I know school gets a lot of hate, but it is truly sad. I can no longer socialize with my friends face-to-face. Thanks to phones, I can still talk to them, but I only talk to a few. Quarantine sounds like fun to a person who has an interest in video games and movies, but it gets boring and lonely really fast. In my opinion, the catalog of Netflix gets very dull after the third day of quarantine. At least with school, it “gave” me something to do unlike mindlessly watching The Office for the fourth time. I’m not currently worried about the whole corona-virus thing because I’m a teenager with a good immune system. If I keep washing my hands (something everyone should do pandemic or not), I’ll be fine. However what I’m worried about is graduation. I’m not the right person to explain, but it’s something I’ve looked forward to for a long time. Now graduation is up in the air and, most likely, will be affected by the corona-virus.

Many jobs are closing because of the corona-virus. I work at Dollar Fresh, and at first it was crazy. Over time, business has slowed down, but we are constantly out of toilet paper, bread, and hand sanitizer. Hoarders are a huge problem to retailer workers and stores. The corona-virus is bad, yes, but no one needs to buy toilet paper for a year. This leaves people who actually need it left with nothing. Dollar Fresh now has a sign in the aisle with the toilet paper that states, “Only one per customer.” The one good thing about all the customers is Dollar Fresh is making a huge profit.

In conclusion, the corona-virus is something that should be worried about, however “it is like the flu, but it doesn’t have a vaccine” -Mrs.Mahannah. Overall, I am concerned, but for now, I’m just chilling in my house waiting this thing out.
