Hobbies

After COVID-19 spread across the world and changed lives, it also changed how people go about their day.

When school was cancelled for the rest of the year, I had so much more time on my hands. Instead of just wasting my days away, I decided to pick up some hobbies and form a routine.

Making sure I’m keeping up with my school work has been a number one priority, so I make sure I don’t sleep in too late to start my work.

Before school was cancelled, I was in an art class, so I’ve been continuing art outside of school.

By collecting oil pastels from the school, I am able to keep up with what would have been assignments in class. Besides the assignments, I love painting and coloring to take up part of my day. I redid an old mirror I had and painted it for my room.

Another thing I enjoy doing is gardening. Even though I live in an apartment, I have an inside planter that has led lights and a watering system. I planted a variety of wildflowers and they just started to sprout. It's nice to see something that I planted and to watch it grow.

To stay active, I do home workouts. Since gyms are closed, I have had to make due with what I have. There are so many home workout videos on youtube that don’t require equipment. I have resistance bands that I throw in sometimes to mix it up. Staying active instead of just sitting around has helped me a lot.

On the other hand, I have done a lot of baking and cooking. There are a million ideas on pinterest to keep me busy. I have baked banana bread, cookies, and cupcakes along with casseroles, sesame chicken, and chicken parmesan.

Even though I am stuck at home all day, there are so many ways I stay busy. Don’t get me wrong, a nice relaxing day is something I take advantage of too. Being able to try new things and expand hobbies has been great. Having to stay home might just be a blessing in disguise.
